India’s Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal, recently engaged in discussions with Finland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Riikka Purra, as well as the Minister of Economic Affairs, Sakari Puisto. The meetings aimed to bolster economic cooperation and enhance trade and investment connections between India and Finland.

The two parties concentrated on expanding collaboration in various sectors, particularly those involving digitalisation, innovation, and research and development. They also explored strengthening ties in the startup ecosystem and forging business partnerships. Discussions extended to potential cooperation in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, 6G, quantum technologies, semiconductors, space, and sustainability.

A significant topic of the meetings was the ongoing negotiations for the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Both countries examined how this agreement could boost bilateral trade, attract investment, and open new opportunities for businesses across both nations.

These meetings occur as India and the European Union continue to work towards a comprehensive trade agreement. Such a pact is expected to fortify economic relations and enhance collaboration in strategic sectors, providing a platform for increased cooperation between India and Finland under the broader EU framework.
