Erdogan Alerts Global Economy Threat from Escalating Iran Conflict

by admin477351

In a recent address following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized the global repercussions of regional conflicts, citing the economic and political tremors from the Iran war as a case in point. He highlighted how these disturbances are manifesting as inflation, supply chain challenges, and instability in energy markets worldwide. Erdoğan underscored the interconnectedness of nations in today’s globalized economy, where crises in one region can have far-reaching impacts across continents.

Erdoğan illustrated this point by noting that an incident in the Middle East can quickly affect countries as distant as those in Latin America or Asia. He described the ramifications of the attacks on Iran on February 28 as a complex crisis with global implications. Key indicators of this fragility, he argued, include fluctuating fuel prices, rising inflation, ongoing supply chain disruptions, and bottlenecks in essential trade routes like the Strait of Hormuz.

The Turkish president also criticized what he sees as a speculative economic system that benefits a select few at the expense of many. He expressed concern over the economic shockwaves’ unpredictable scale and condemned the profiteering tactics of those he labeled as “wild capitalists” who exploit market instability for personal gain. According to Erdoğan, these actions exacerbate the hardships faced by middle- and lower-income families, who are grappling with diminished purchasing power amid escalating living costs.

On the domestic front, Erdoğan took aim at unjustifiable price hikes in Türkiye, noting that these increases could not be fully attributed to production or transportation costs, especially given the country’s relatively low energy costs within Europe. He pledged continued government oversight to curb opportunistic pricing and called on businesses to help maintain market stability and protect consumers.

Furthermore, Erdoğan condemned Israel’s recent actions, particularly the attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla, labeling it as an act of piracy against those he described as “voyagers of hope.” He reaffirmed Türkiye’s commitment to justice and solidarity with the Palestinian people, asserting that such aggressive measures would not deter the international community’s pursuit of these ideals.
