A Region in Demand: Central Asian Presidents Add US to Busy Summit Schedule

by admin477351

The presidents of Central Asia are in high demand, adding a reported November 6 trip to Washington to an already busy summit schedule. The leaders of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan have confirmed the upcoming meeting with the US president.

This planned summit highlights the region’s rising geopolitical importance. It follows similar high-level meetings with the leaders of China, Russia, and the European Union all within the past year.

Major powers are intensely jockeying for influence in the five former Soviet states. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has prompted the C5 to seek a wider range of partners, and the US and China are eager to fill that role.

The region is not only a potential logistics hub but is also rich in natural resources, from oil and gas to rare earth minerals, which are crucial for the global economy.

While three of the five leaders have yet to confirm their attendance, the planned summit shows a clear American intention to re-engage with a region at the crossroads of global interests.
