Cycle of Violence: Netanyahu’s Strike on Houthis Guarantees Retaliation

by admin477351

An Israeli strike that killed the Houthi prime minister, celebrated by Benjamin Netanyahu as a “fatal blow,” has all but guaranteed a new cycle of violence in the Middle East. The Houthis have already vowed to “take revenge” for the high-profile assassination in their capital, Sanaa.

Netanyahu has framed the attack as a necessary response to the Houthis’ relentless missile fire on Israel and their disruption of Red Sea commerce, actions the group takes in the name of Palestinian solidarity. He further warned that this strike was “just the beginning.”

The operation was a stunning display of long-range military capability and intelligence gathering. However, by failing to eliminate the Houthi chief of staff and defense minister, Israel has left the group’s military command structure largely in place to plan its promised retaliation.

Experts are cautious about the long-term impact of the strike. While acknowledging it as a tactical achievement, researcher Yoel Guzansky believes it won’t change the Houthis’ core motivation. The assassination, therefore, may have wounded the group’s leadership but strengthened its resolve.
