Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced a substantial enhancement of Türkiye’s international standing following the successful hosting of the NATO Summit on July 7–8. Erdoğan characterized the summit as a historic milestone, emphasizing the presence of global leaders, including US President Donald Trump. This gathering underscored Türkiye’s increasingly significant role in global diplomacy.
Erdoğan highlighted the consensus among NATO leaders on the necessity of eliminating obstacles to defense industry collaboration. In a notable development, he revealed that NATO plans to establish a Counter-Unmanned Systems Centre of Excellence in Konya, further cementing Türkiye’s pivotal role in defense initiatives.
The summit’s Defence Industry Forum drew nearly 1,000 participants, an event Erdoğan believes will enhance Türkiye’s international image and boost tourism. His remarks indicate a strategic focus on leveraging such high-profile events to elevate Türkiye’s stature on the world stage.
In addition to the summit’s outcomes, Erdoğan expressed a desire to deepen ties with the United States, setting an ambitious target to increase bilateral trade to $100 billion. Furthermore, President Erdoğan extended his condolences to Qatar on the passing of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, underscoring Türkiye’s continued engagement and solidarity with regional partners.
