Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is optimistic about finding a peaceful resolution with the United States concerning Greenland and the broader Arctic region. Her comments came after attending the European Arctic Summit in Rovaniemi, Finland, where she acknowledged the rising pressures on Greenland and expressed gratitude for the support from European allies.
Frederiksen emphasized Denmark’s intention to enhance its collaboration with the United States on security and defense matters, particularly relating to Greenland. Discussions continue within a high-level working group focused on Greenland, and while Frederiksen noted that it was premature to reach any conclusions, she remained hopeful about the potential for progress.
She further pointed out the increasing cooperation among European and transatlantic partners in terms of Arctic security. As part of this effort, several allied nations are conducting military exercises in Greenland, reflecting a growing involvement of European countries in securing the Arctic region.
The European Arctic Summit, which took place from September 13 to 14, aimed at developing a unified European strategy for the Arctic, recognizing the region’s growing strategic and geopolitical significance.
