In a continued effort to mend long-standing tensions, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan engaged in a telephone conversation to discuss the progress of normalizing relations between their nations and to address recent developments in the region. The dialogue reflects ongoing high-level interactions as both countries work towards reconciliation after years of strained ties.
During the call, Pashinyan extended Eid al-Adha greetings to Erdoğan, underscoring the spirit of goodwill that is crucial for the normalization process. The leaders evaluated the strides made in enhancing bilateral relations and expanding mutual cooperation. Erdoğan reiterated Türkiye’s dedication to advancing peace, stability, and security throughout the region, emphasizing practical measures aimed at facilitating direct trade and boosting economic engagement.
The current normalization initiative, which began in late 2021 with the appointment of special envoys to spearhead negotiations, has seen both Türkiye and Armenia take significant steps to improve their relationship. One of the notable developments was the resumption of commercial flights in 2022, which marked a significant milestone in reconnecting the two nations.
Efforts to normalize relations are part of a broader strategy to strengthen regional stability and enhance economic connectivity in the South Caucasus. Despite the challenges that remain, both governments continue to support dialogue and confidence-building measures as they work towards a more cooperative and constructive bilateral partnership.
