Türkiye’s defense and aerospace sectors have reached a significant milestone, achieving over $11 billion in exports over a rolling 12-month period for the first time. This achievement underscores the country’s burgeoning presence in the global defense industry. In June alone, exports in these sectors totaled $802.8 million, reflecting a 29.6% increase from the same month in the previous year. For the first six months of the year, exports have risen by 29.5% year-on-year, amounting to $4.67 billion.
The head of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), Haluk Görgün, attributed this growth to the rising international demand for Turkish defense products, alongside the ongoing expansion of Türkiye’s defense manufacturing capabilities. Görgün highlighted that the effectiveness of Turkish defense systems in real-world operations has played a crucial role in forging lasting international partnerships. This development has been part of Türkiye’s strategic effort to enhance its defense industry, significantly reducing its dependency on foreign military equipment while emerging as a key player in global defense exports.
Over the past two decades, Türkiye has made concerted efforts to bolster its domestic defense industry. This strategic push has not only decreased the nation’s reliance on imported military hardware but has also positioned it as an influential exporter on the international stage. The country currently exports more than 230 different defense products to 185 nations worldwide, showcasing its broad reach and capacity in the defense sector.
Türkiye’s ambitions do not stop at the current achievements; the country is focused on cementing its status among the top 10 defense exporters globally. This goal is supported by its robust defense industry infrastructure and the innovative technologies that continue to emerge from its manufacturing ecosystem. As global demand for defense products evolves, Türkiye’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its capabilities suggests a promising trajectory for further growth in the sector.
