High-level discussions took place in Ankara on Monday as Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization Director, Ibrahim Kalın, met with Hassan Rashad, the chief of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service. The talks centered on the Gaza ceasefire, expanding bilateral cooperation, and addressing significant regional security concerns. This meeting signifies a deepening of diplomatic and security collaboration between Türkiye and Egypt, as both nations work to enhance their influence across the Middle East and Africa.
A primary agenda item was the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Turkish security sources revealed that Kalın and Rashad agreed to boost coordination to counter what they view as increasing Israeli violations of the ceasefire. Kalın reiterated Türkiye’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people, emphasizing Ankara’s commitment to providing assistance amidst the ongoing conflict.
In addition to Gaza, the intelligence leaders examined other regional developments, focusing on ways to strengthen ties between Türkiye and Egypt. Their conversation included support for political reconciliation in Libya by advocating for the unification of its governing institutions and military forces under a single national administration. The goal is to foster stability in both the eastern and western regions of the country.
Security issues in other parts of the region were also on the table. The two officials discussed the evolving situation in Somalia and addressed the conflict in Sudan involving the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces. They assessed the potential impacts of these crises on regional stability and explored avenues for ongoing dialogue on mutual security interests.
